Why I charter my sailboat in Vancouver, British Columbia

Sailboat charter Captain GiO

Being a professional web developer I am in a different position than most boat owners. I thought to myself, if I was going to go through the trouble of setting up my own website to run a single boat charter business, why not create a portal so other owners can charter their boats as well.

Owners or Crew
can create a boat user profile for free
.

1/3 of the revenue generated through this website will go towards installing and maintaining MOORING BUOYS the rest will go to the improvement of this site.

This interactive boat chartering site uses some of the best Open-Source software available anywhere on the Net. By leveraging the open-source software world, My Boat Charters can offer a portal that will make better use of our boat assets by advertising the opportunity for a boat charter by owner/skipper. Your boat / yacht could be a canoe, kayak, jet-ski, houseboat, fishingboat, powerboat, sailboat etc... you can bareboat or captain your boat - you get to decide. As captain of your boat, you set the price each charter is worth to you and the timeslot.

Over $39 bilion was spent on boats and related services in the United States in 2007. That is a large sum of money spent on purchasing and upkeeping a fleet of vessels which 85% of the time are not being used!  Remember most fleet charter companies have to amortize the cost of brand new boats and pay for staff wages etc.

My plan is to offset the costs of my boat investment by doing 1 day / dinner sailing charters cruises with skipper service from Vancouver British Columbia, and Howe Sound.  I recommend all crew on the charters provide valuable feedback comments after they have completed their charter experience.

The GOAL OF THIS SITE is to have the existing boats around the world being used more often. I have spent way too much time drooling over pretty boats that look like they never get used. Yachting may be elitist but boating is for everyone! If I can help more people get out on boats (and in the process get out on MY boat more often), then that is a goal worth striving for!

If you think that chartering your boat is below you,
I'll give you a case study.

Quote: "Luxury sailing yacht 'Maltese Falcon' is a  massive 88 meter mega yacht built by the Italian Perini Navi Yachts. A privileged few charter guests will ever be fortunate enough to experience the Maltese Falcon under full sail. The huge clipper S/Y 'Maltese Falcon' is the largest sailing yacht in the world and in a breeze her immense DynaRig powers her to record shattering speeds. "

  Luxury Sailing Yacht Maltese Falcon

You can charter the whole boat for $325,000 Euro per week + expenses, this includes room for 12 guests and 22 crew. Event though her length is 289.1 feet she can be sailed by one person from a digital helm!

If mega yacht owners are using charter profits to offset the cost of their boats, why shouldn't we?

The nautical knowledge we have as captains is way more valuable when it is passed on to future boaters.  If we work together as a boating community there are major cost / economies of scale benefits by using a shared resource. Together we get more exposure which will help us pay those moorage fees and bottom paint jobs no one likes to open their wallet for. Please enter your email into our newsletter to keep in touch with us, or create a free boat user profile now and get involved.
