Life Jackets

Before you leave the dock on any boat you should know where your life jacket is stowed. It is important to ensure that it is within reach or where you can grab it quickly.

Non swimmers and small children must always wear their life jacket when out on deck.

Always wear your life jacket in the dinghy.

Strong swimmers may think they do not need a life jacket. Not so: many people hit their head when falling and all unconscious people in the water without a life jacket are at high risk of drowning. As well, for the people on board, it is much easier to lift someone floating in the water with a life jacket.

Serious head injuries from falls on boats happen every day so, keep at least one hand securely grasping the boat as you move around. One hand for you, one hand for the boat - always hold on at all times!
