Expecially when away from the dock, conserving battery power is a must. If you turn on a light, be sure to turn it off as soon as you are finished with it.
Keep the lights in your personal sleeping area off unless you are present and using them.
Remember to turn the lights off when you leave the head (toilet).
When anchored, always have a white light on the top of your vessel turned on at dusk. This enables other skippers to determine where to drop their anchor in sometimes crowded bays.
A high powered search/spotlight helps not only in docking the vessel, but also confirming anchor position throughout the night.
