Become part of the crew

With the captain's help, hands on participation usually makes a good trip great.

On the first day ask your hosts what you could do each day that would help.

Many captains will allow guests to participate in the boat handling and navigation if you feel comfortable. Do it! Gaining new skills from a competent teacher is always rewarding. It is not hard or complicated, it's mostly common sense.

Remember, there are times when the captain must give full attention to a boat task. Examples are when anchoring, docking and fueling. During these times move quietly out of the way and avoid conversation with the captain.
